My patients say:“I just can’t believe what a change it makes in my whole appearance”

What I say:I’ve had them on my ownteeth now for 5 years. I wouldn’t have had it done if I wasn’t convinced how well it works. I always like to brag, “Lumineers take 10 years off your looks!” So, just look at me!

LumiSmile gives you a before and after picture of the proposed final result of your dental treatment. Seeing an image of your new smile will help you understand the dramatic improvements dental treatment can provide. When you first come into the office we take your photo. It is then sent via an internet portal to the Lumineeers Smile Design Studio for a team of artists to recreate what you would look like with Lumineers. In 20 minutes they return to us another photo of you. We then print them and present the before and after photos to you to see the improvements in your smile. This is a free service. Just give us a call and we can schedule you for an exciting transformation.

Sapphire® Lesion Detection:

Sapphire Lesion Detection permits our office to potentially uncover oral lesions early. Without assistance from Sapphire Plus Lesion Detection (Velscope), cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions might go undetected and possibly spread causing pain, disfiguration or death. The sooner cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions are detected, the better the probabilities of successful prevention, therapy and recovery.

When we examine your teeth, we also exam your mouth for any sign of cancer or other lesions. The use of Velscope helps us to find and identify problems early (and with cancer, the earlier the better!). We shine the Velscope light throughout your mouth. Normal, healthy tissue will fluorescence (or glow) naturally when viewed under the right lighting conditions. Unhealthy tissue will lose the ability to fluorescence . Velscope will allow us to visualize the tissues for this fluorescence. This enhances our ability to examine the oral mucosa and screen for tissue abnormalities, potentially leading to the earlier discovery of pre-cancer, cancer, and other disease processes. This is particularly important, considering the overall five-year survival rate for oral cancer is only 50-60%, but it can be as high as 80-90% when the disease is discovered and treated in its early stages. This early detection is one of the best mechanisms for enabling treatment success, increasing survival rates, and maintaining a high quality of life.

In addition, Human papillomavirus (HPV), the sexually transmitted infection commonly assiciated with 95% of cervical cancer, has been liked to oral cancer. HPV has caused an increase of cases in young, non-smokers who previously had a low incidence of oral cancer. It is also true that about 25% of oral cancer has no known risk factors.

I do this Velscope exam every two years. Oral cancer screening is now the standard of care….it is so important! Every adult patient in my office gets this done.

Whitening / Teeth Bleaching:

Tooth Whitening or Tooth Bleaching is right for individuals who have healthy teeth and gums and would like a whiter, brighter smile. Teeth darken because of wear and staining of enamel. The color of your teeth comes from the shade of your enamel. As your enamel wears away from abrasion (brushing) , erosion (acids like soda), and abfraction (grinding), your teeth discolor. Teeth may stain from the food and drink. Your natural tooth color is genetic but is also affected by diet and drugs when you were a child.

In my office, we use the tray system which we believe is the easiest and most predictable way to control your results. We make thin, flexible mouth guards from impressions, then have you apply a small amount of whitening gel (carbamide peroxide) to your teeth. The trays hold the gel against your teeth so it doesn’t wash away. You use it as much as you like for 20 to 30 minute intervals. Usually, 3 to 4 times a day for several days your teeth will be much whiter. Once you are happy with your shade, you do touch-ups once a week thereafter. Existing dental work that has porcelain can not be bleached but can be whitened by covering it with Lumineers. Also, whitening teeth can make them sensitive. That is why we like the tray system because you can control the application yourself. Other systems that are done faster in a dental office are prone to make teeth sensitive. Fluoride, though, can be used and helps desensitize teeth. If you already have sensitive teeth, we prescribe a neutralized, topical fluoride to use before you start the program. The cost for whitening your teeth is $350 for upper and lower arches but we run frequent specials and coupons for $80 (this is a great deal). Look for them online!
